Description
Fish Name: Three spine Stickleback
Latin Name: Gasterosteus aculeatus
Maximum Size: 10cm
Preferred Water Conditions: Will acclimatize to a wide range of conditions. pH: 6.5-8.0
Temperature: Cold water-temperate between 2-24 deg C (34-80 deg F)
Care: Stickleback are vary easy to care for, in most ponds they will not require feeding as they will find enough natural food in the pond.
They have a high tolerance to poor water conditions and for a cold water fish a fairly high tolerance to temperature extremes.
They often breed in vast numbers and the success of there offspring is higher then other fish because the male stickleback protects the eggs and fry.
The male makes a nest and will actively chase away other fish and other males from his “patch”. In a tank this is very interesting to watch.
Stickleback mainly feed on small insect and invertebrate life, but will take pond foods too.
