Description

Black Musk Stinkpot Turtle Sternotherus Odoratus Juvenile 5cm

Overview: The Black Musk Stinkpot Turtle (Sternotherus odoratus) is a fascinating aquatic species known for its distinctive musky odor and small size. These turtles typically reach lengths of 3 to 5 inches, making them suitable for smaller aquatic setups.

Origin: Native to North America, they inhabit slow-moving freshwater bodies such as ponds, streams, and marshes. In captivity, they thrive in environments that mimic their natural habitat.

Feeding: These turtles are omnivorous, enjoying a diet that includes aquatic invertebrates, small fish, worms, and vegetation. Offering a varied diet ensures their nutritional needs are met.

Tank Mates: They prefer solitary living and may not appreciate tank mates. If housing with other turtles, choose species of similar size and temperament to prevent aggression or competition for resources.

Aggression: While not typically aggressive, they may display territorial behavior, especially if confined in smaller spaces or housed with incompatible tank mates.

Experience Level: Ideal for intermediate to experienced turtle keepers due to their specific habitat requirements and sensitivity to water quality. Proper filtration and regular maintenance are crucial for their well-being.

Water Parameters: Maintain water temperatures between 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C) and ensure clean, well-filtered water. pH levels should range from 6.5 to 7.5, and ammonia and nitrite levels should remain at zero. Adequate basking spots and hiding places should also be provided.
