Description

Fish Name: F1 Carp

Latin Name: Cyprinus carpio x Carassius carassius

Maximum Size: 300cm

Preferred Water Conditions: Will acclimatize to a wide range of conditions. pH: 6.5-8.0

Temperature: Cold water-temperate between 2-30 deg C (34-86 deg F)

Care: Carp are always best kept in a pond situation, especially if they are to reach their full growth potential through exercise gained by swimming. Although keeping small carp in aquariums can be a faster way of growing them on, but should be moved into a larger environment when bigger.

The pond should be at LEAST 4ft/1.2m deep (6ft/1.8m or more is better) and also as long and wide as possible to give a large surface area for oxygen exchange.

In colder climates, it is important to consider the depth of the pond because of seasonal temperature fluctuations; rapid changes in temperature will distress carp. The deeper your pond is in proportion to the surface area, the less susceptible it will be to swings in temperature.

Good quality pond flakes (for smaller Carp), pond pellets, pond sticks, frozen/live foods etc. Prawns, earthworms, and lettuce are all good treats to be fed now and again.

As the water temperature cools down in late Autumn, a lower protein wheat germ-based food should be fed
